Autobiographical Narrative #1
Small Town Success
Growing up in a small town of Lindsay was a challenge since the community was filled with agricultural families who worked in the fields and packing houses. This small town which not many people know of has had a huge impact on my life. The people in the community are a perfect example of people I would not like to become as I grow older. The fact that I see the struggles my mom goes through as a single mother to barely make ends-meet to pay the bills while earning minimum wage is a prime example of why I am standing here before you.
My parents got divorced at the age of four so when that occurred I never had a stable home. We were always moving from town to town based on the work my mom had. I was constantly back and forth from both of my parents’ house moving from school to school every year. Despite the fact that my parents were never together my mission is to always make them both very proud of me by being their first child to not only attend a university but graduate for one. I never believe I could have done it until I arrived in Lindsay. This was because I always believed everyone else was smarter than me. It was not until I got to high school where I found out that everyone has their weaknesses. This is where I felt like I belong.
I’ve had multiple opportunities that I believe I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else. An example of this would have to be the day I took a step forward and decided I wanted to attend a four year university. No one in my family has ever gone to college and I knew I would not like to be like them. I would like to wake up every day going to work somewhere where I love to be; doing the things that I love. I knew I couldn’t do it on my own so I decided to challenge myself by applying for AVID my junior year of high school. I got accepted and don’t regret it one bit. AVID has helped me not only educational wise but also socially. I am now able to expose myself to different things thus challenging myself to do better in life.
All these obstacles have developed me into the person you see today by showing me the correct way to chase your dreams. Now I know that anything is possible. Nothing is ever handed to you in life and in order to get to where you would like to be you have to work hard and knock down all those barriers that prevent you from achieving your dream. That small town that I’ve always called home is the reason why I am the person I have proudly become today; not only make myself proud but also my family and community.

Autobiographical Narrative #2
Short Time Struggles
One important challenge that I had to face throughout my four years of high school would have to be the challenges that have occurred within my family. My family has pushed me to be the person I am today because of all their support they have given me. Even though this wasn’t how it was in the beginning. To begin with my family has always had difficult things to overcome either it being economically or socially. I’ve always seen them struggle to keep the household in check economically or trying to stay out of trouble in the streets.
When my parents got divorce my older brother took their separation really hard. He’s always been a father figure for me and sometime he made decisions that weren’t the best. After their separation my brother took a turn for the worst. He began hanging out with the wrong group of people and later joined a gang. I’ve always felt like because of my family’s actions everyone saw me as a bad person. That everything my family did was always reflected back on me. Everyone always expected me to be just like them by making mistakes in everything they did. It wasn’t until later in life that I’ve come to realize that everything they did was for a reason and that was always to protect everyone. Every action they made they’ve always thought about us before making the decision. Every time there we’re about to make a decision they always thought what would be the choice for our family.
I am now proud to say that I am part of that crazy little family we have. I am proud that they have persevered through all the struggles and managed to get their lives together. That all the goals they set for themselves have been an accomplishment. That because of all their accomplishment I push myself to prove to everyone who ever doubted me that I can go further in life, that I am not like everyone else in my family. I am proud of what everyone in my family has accomplished, everyone has managed to better their life and come closer as a family in general. My mission is not to rest until I make every single one of them proud. To know that all their hard work has paid off in my achievements. This challenge has helped me overcome all the obstacles that life itself had thrown at me because I know that it will all be worth it at the end. That all the hard times we have faced we have managed to get through them together. As long as we have each other we would be able to conquer the whole world.
